Aside from being located in the most vibrant neighborhood of Los Angeles - easily accessible to Beverly Hills, Hollywood Hills, Sunset Strip and Santa Monica Boulevard – The London West Hollywood is also the ideal residence for guests looking to soak up the sun at some of Los Angeles’ famed beaches.

Couples, families and even the business traveler who can sneak away for an afternoon are encouraged to seek out both adventure and relaxation in one of Southern California’s natural beauty spots.

Santa Monica Pier

Santa Monica State Beach
Located just 25 minutes from The London, Santa Monica State Beach is a Los Angeles icon known for its soft sand and famous pier. After soaking up the sun, enjoy an amusement park ride, aquarium visit or just walk the boardwalk and sample local restaurants.

Venice City beach

Venice City Beach
Just a few minutes South of Santa Monica lies the main beach in the Venice neighborhood of Los Angeles. Known for its unique display of outdoor workout and exercise amenities, the beach is a great “people watching” spot. Be on the lookout for surfers, skaters and street entertainers. Or, walk south along the beach to Venice Pier Beach and rent a bike to explore or head to the end of the pier for a famous LA sunset.

Malibu Beach and rocks

For a more scenic drive and true SoCal day trip experience, head out to the beaches of Malibu. Located about 45 minutes from West Hollywood, guests can enjoy the beautiful drive along Route 1 and Pacific Coast Highway (PCH) to the 21 miles of Malibu coastline. Some of the most popular beaches include Zuma, Point Dume, Dan Blocker and Malibu Surfrider.

Robert H. Meyer Memorial State Beach (El Pescador, La Piedra, El Matador)

In Western Malibu along the bluff next to the PCH is an off-the-tourist-radar beach with some of the most picturesque shorelines in Malibu. El Pescador is the western most beach, La Piedtra is the middle of the three beaches and at low tide, you can walk all the way to El Matador – the most secluded and semi-hidden of the lot.

Leo Carillo State Park

Leo Carrillo State Park
Just past Malibu, about a one hours drive from The London, is a mile and a half of beach for swimming, surfing, wind surfing and sun bathing. North Beach is known for being a great dog friendly beach and as you head south, Sequit Point offers tidal pools and caves for exploring. There is also a campground for adventure seekers looking to spend the night along the pacific.

Will Rogesr State Beach

Will Rogers State Beach
Thirteen miles or a 30-minute drive will bring you to Will Rogers State Beach located just outside of LA and is a bit more secluded and private than its neighboring beaches of Malibu and Santa Monica. Ideal for guests seeking a relaxing beach day, volleyball playing and picnicking. The South section of the beach, unofficially known as Ginger Rogers Beach is popular within the LGBT community.

Manhattan Beach

Manhattan Beach
Forty minutes away from the hotel and just 12 or so miles south of Santa Monica, Manhattan Beach is a haven for beach volleyball, surfing and their sand dunes. Manhattan Beach is also known for its CNN Money ranking as the #1 “Best Places for the Rich and Single” in 2011. The Travel Channel also ranked it the 9th “Sexiest Beach on Earth” in 2008. El Porto Beach, a part of Manhattan Beach, is known for it’s underwater canyon that creates larger than average waves for surf goers and those who admire the oceans natural beauty.

Dockweiler Beach

Dockweiler Beach
Located a 30 minute drive from the The London, and just south of Venice and Maria Del Ray lies Dockweiler Beach – best known for its bonfires, bbq picnics, plane watching and hang gliding.

Long Beach

Long Beach
About an hour South of the hotel, guests can choose from over ten beaches to enjoy including Rosie’s Dog Beach for our four legged friends who want to roam through the sand off-leash.

Huntington Beach

Huntington Beach
Just over an hour’s drive away, located south of Long Beach, and commonly known as Surf City USA is home to five public beaches including a pup paradise (Huntington Dog Beach) offering 1.5 miles of coastline for off-leash play.

Laguna Beach cliff and vegatation

Laguna Beach
Rising to fame in the early 2000’s as the beautiful backdrop for MTV’s reality hit Laguna Beach, this stunning seaside city is about a two hour drive from The London West Hollywood and located in between Los Angeles and San Diego. Their multitude of beaches include people watching on Main Beach, bonfires on Aliso Beach and a lot of surfing – especially at Rockpile which is a surf-only beach.

Newport Beach

Just North of Laguna Beach, lies 10 miles of coastline perfect for sunbathers, swimmers and surfers. “The Wedge” is a must see for anyone who wants to catch some of the highest waves in Southern California (typically during the Summer and Fall) or, those who want to hang back and admire some of the best surfers, body boarders and skim boarders.
